WARN stands for the jobholder Adjustment & Retraining Letter Act of 1988. Whether you own a small business or are in a management position at a large corporation, you should know how to write-up a jobholder. Therefore, you shouldn't lay off an employee for their off-duty behavior. Your writing should be understandable to someone outside the business. No matter how frustrated you're or how serious the infraction, don't fire somebody immediately. There should be no question the worker involved does not understand the nature of the reprimand and the consequences if he or she repeats the behavior. You should consider hiring a private investigator when the person accused of overwhelming misbehavior is either a whistle-blower or a member of upper management. o Consequences of continued poor performance. Your tone in a verbal warning should be "helpful" not "threatening." For example, you must say, "With these corrective actions, I'm sure your productivity will upgrade." This is better than, "If you don't make these corrections in your behavior, you'll force me to evaluate your 'fit' with the business.".
